Glossary
One shared language for startup ecosystems
Bertie uses the same terms everywhere — across the founder journey, delivery partner workspaces, stream co-ordination and the national management layer. Here is what each one means.
- AI Co-Founder
- For founders, Bertie acts as an AI Co-Founder — challenging your assumptions, suggesting the right next venture-building tasks, helping you prepare for mentors and improving your funding materials, so you always know what to do next.
- AI Co-Pilot
- For programme managers, delivery partners, stream co-ordinators and national agencies, Bertie acts as an AI Co-Pilot — triaging applications, summarising cohort progress, surfacing at-risk ventures and drafting reporting, so teams spend their time on founders rather than admin.
- Venture Development Assets
- As a founder works with Bertie they produce structured outputs — evidence, milestones, mentor feedback, pitch and funding materials. These Venture Development Assets are the portable record of progress that travels with the founder across programmes and funding pathways, so nothing has to be rebuilt from scratch.
- Founder Journey
- The Founder Journey is the single, connected pathway each founder follows — from first intake and routing, through structured venture development, mentoring and evaluations, to funding readiness and growth. Every support layer works from the same journey.
- Delivery Partner Workspace
- Accelerators, incubators, universities and regional hubs each get a Delivery Partner Workspace to manage cohorts, mentors, workshops, evaluations and founder readiness — all feeding the same shared record so progress rolls up to stream and national level.
- Stream Co-ordination Layer
- The Stream Co-ordination Layer brings together every delivery partner in a programme stream — comparing performance, spotting bottlenecks, managing interventions and tracking founder readiness across locations, so a whole stream is operated as one.
- National Management Layer
- The National (or Regional) Management Layer is the live control tower for national agencies — pipeline, programme delivery, regional coverage, venture readiness, funding pipeline and delivery partner performance — so decisions rest on real venture activity, not fragmented reports.
- Programme Manager
- A Programme Manager runs a programme day to day: managing cohorts, tasks, mentors, events, evaluations, founder progress and reporting in one workspace, with an AI Co-Pilot that reduces admin and improves founder readiness reporting.
